TOOELE VALLEY, UTAH (July 8, 2007) -- One of the greatest American racing drivers of all time, Bob Bondurant, was honored at Miller Motorsports Park on Saturday, July 7.
A native of Los Angeles, Bondurant joined Carroll Shelby's Cobra team in 1963 and went on to win numerous races and a chance to compete in the 1964 World GT Championship. Paired with Dan Gurney in a Cobra Daytona Coupe that year, he finished fourth overall and claimed the GT-class win in the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
Bondurant remained in Europe in 1965 and drove Shelby Cobras to win seven out of 10 races, which helped Shelby win the World Manufacturers Championship, which remains the only time in history that an American manufacturer has captured that prestigious honor.
Bob Bondurant is one of the "legends" whose photos adorn one wall in the Legends Hall banquet facility at Miller Motorsports Park. On Saturday, June 7, as a special guest of the 32nd Shelby American Automobile Club (SAAC) National Convention, he was reunited with the Cobra Daytona Coupe in which he and Gurney won the GT class at Le Mans in 1964 and signed his photo on the Wall of Legends for posterity.
"This is a great facility and a great event," Bondurant said in brief remarks before the signing ceremony. "I am honored to have my photo displayed here in Miller Motorsports Park's Legends Hall, and very pleased to be able to sign it."
After a blue-oval-intensive weekend at Miller Motorsports Park with the SAAC group, the track will prepare for more vintage competition when Historic Sportscar Racing Ltd. visits over the weekend of Aug. 3-5 for the second annual Zions Bank Heroes of Speed event.

August 9, 2006 – Chandler, AZ: To mark the 40th anniversary of the movie “Grand Prix”, Warner Home Video has released a special DVD edition of the film, including a “Making of” documentary featuring Bob Bondurant.
Bondurant was hired by director John Frankenheimer to personally instruct the star of the film, James Garner, in preparation for his driving scenes. He spent two months with the actor, and then played an active roll in production of the film, even playing the role of a fellow competitor.
“The documentary turned out fantastic and the movie looked great. That was such a great time. Not only was I a technical advisor for the film, training the actors and driving various Formula cars, as well as the GT40 camera car, I was also racing competitively for Ferrari,” said Bob Bondurant. “It’s great to see that the school that I started after my work with Grand Prix is still thriving and that this film is still considered one of the greatest racing pictures of all time.”
Shortly after Bondurant’s involvement with the film, Bondurant’s racing career was interrupted when the steering wheel on the McLaren Mk II he was driving at Watkins Glen broke at over 150 miles per hour, rolling end over end eight times and putting him in the hospital. He began developing plans for a racing school while recuperating and in 1968 opened The Bob Bondurant School of High Performance Driving in Phoenix, Arizona.
The DVD is in stores now.

(Phoenix, Arizona) Kart racing sensation and multi time national champion Alan Rudolph raised a few eyebrows in the world of stock cars as he impressed with a strong two-day test in a Bill Elliott owned Dodge powered Craftsman Truck. The test was held at Peach State Speedway outside Jefferson, Georgia. Rudolph's fastest lap of 19.1 seconds on the asphalt ½ mile high banked oval, eclipsed a baseline time run by Elliott earlier during the test, and was several tenths quicker than either of the other drivers in attendance.
Rudolph has been coaching Elliott's son Chase in karting competition this year, in the Colorado State region. The stock car legend was able to see Rudolph in action during a recent race, and after Rudolph's dominant win, Elliott offered him a test in a Dodge powered Craftsman Truck.
Although the test was originally scheduled to take place at Greenville Speedway in South Carolina, a long rainstorm forced them to head to Peach State Speedway in Georgia. The ½ mile asphalt Peach State track billed as ‘the fastest ½ mile track in Georgia” was promoted by Elliott's father in the 1960’s and was host to many Grand National stock car events
Rudolph was able to turn some 150 laps in the 760 hp Hoosier slick shod truck, and was comfortable with the considerable limits of the vehicle from the start. Elliott offered advice in some areas, but overall seemed to let Rudolph take his time figuring out what to do on his own.
“I wasn't really sure what to expect from that car,” remarked Rudolph. “From karting to sportscar racing, all the stuff I've been in has been really light and quick, and with the that truck weighing 3,400 lbs and making 700 horsepower, I wasn't totally sure what it would be like. The truck handled really well though, actually way better than I thought and the brakes we strong too. I started off left foot braking in my first session, but Bill coached me a bit and told me on the shorter ovals right foot braking is usually the way to go. After that we just concentrated on getting some good quick clean laps in.”
“He did real well in the test,” said Elliott in a recent interview. “I was totally surprised. He ran very consistent, even though I didn't have much time to work with him. I think if we can give him an opportunity he'll do real well.”
In addition to spending time at the track with Elliott, Alan was able to spend some time at the race shop and engine shop and even went and had lunch at one of Bill's favorite burger places, The Pool Room. Alan came away from his time with Elliott impressed with the entire experience.
“Bill's one of the most interesting and nicest guys you'd ever want to meet,” said Rudolph. “Everyplace we went people knew him, and was very cool with everyone. I learned a lot about his history, and I felt like we became good friends.”
Elliott was equally kind in his assessment of Rudolph. “Everyone seemed to like him,” said Elliott. “He's well spoken and he understands promoting. I hope I can help him with some opportunities.”

Detroit, Michigan, February 6, 2006 - For the fourth year in a row, Cadillac and the Bondurant Superkart School held their pre SuperBowl celebrity kart race, the Cadillac SuperBowl XL Grand Prix.
The race was held at the Michigan State Fair grounds and included such celebrities as Jimmy Kimmel, Sara Silverman, Josh Duhemel, Leanne Tweeden, Jessica Alba, Dylan McDermott, Ludacris, Adrien Grenier, Tony Gonzales, Kelly Monaco, Master P, Pat O’Brian, Larry Smith, Jon Kelly, Richard Seymour, Vanessa Minnillo, and Tony Potts.
Vivica A. Fox and Jamie Presley were the official flag girls. Heisman Trophy winner Reggie Bush and Lara Flynn Boyle were also there to take in the action.
This year, the Bondurant crew set up a track inside the Coliseum at the Michigan State Fairgrounds. The concrete proved to be too slippery to race on, so a special mixture of Coca-Cola, anti-freeze, and brake fluid made the hay-bail-lined track a bit tackier.
“I was very impressed with how the racers adapted to the track conditions", said Bob Bondurant. “The track was slick but we still had some exciting racing.”
Josh Duhamel won the race and Cadillac donated $10,000 to the charity of his choice, Amnesty International. Second place was Pat O’Brian and third was two-time former champion Leanne Tweeden.
Stay turned to The Jimmy Kimmel show, ESPN, Entertainment Tonight, Access Hollywood, Extra and People Magazine for coverage of the event.
