Karting History
HOW IT ALL STARTED
Bondurant SuperKart School was conceived after a conversation Bob Bondurant had with Formula 1 World Champion Michael Schumacher at Ferrari's 50th year anniversary. Bob was intrigued why Shumaker was racing shifters karts when he had a multi-million dollar deal with Ferrari driving Formula 1 cars.
Michael explained to Bob that shifter karts were the "closest thing to a Formula 1 racecar" - quickness in acceleration, braking, steering, cornering ability and a sequential gearbox similar to a Formula 1 car. Bob thought to himself, if it's good enough for Michael Schumacher it must be good enough for me. After visiting several karting facilities throughout Europe and driving the karts himself, Bob decided karts would be a perfect fit - not only a fun sport, but a great learning tool. The SuperKart School was opened in 1998 and today has its own dedicated track and fleet of Shifter karts, TAG karts, and Briggs & Stratton Pro karts.
ALAN RUDOLPH
Since March of 1998, the school has been under the direction of karting
champion Alan Rudolph. Alan has over 20 years of racing history and has won many
championships including WKA National and Grand National Champion, SKUSA National
Champion, and five time SKUSA King of the Streets Champion. Additionally, Alan
has raced in SCCA Sports 2000, was a Skip Barber scholarship winner, competed in
Star Mazda posting two wins and was rookie of the year which led to competing in
the famed Petit LeMans in LMP 2.
